Custom Orthotics in Denver, CO

Custom-Made Foot Orthotics

Custom orthotics are prescription shoe inserts made for your feet, not off a store shelf. They support your foot structure, correct how you walk and take pressure off painful areas. Every pair at Denver Vein Center is prescribed, fitted and adjusted by board-certified podiatrist Dr. Marissa McNelly Le.

What Are Custom Orthotics?

Custom orthotics are prescription shoe inserts made from detailed scans of your feet to support your feet and offload any unwanted weight distribution to affected pressure points. An experienced podiatrist will help fabricate your custom orthotics to ensure proper fitting. The podiatrist should also evaluate your feet for any treatable conditions prior to making a pair of orthotics to ensure long-lasting results and relief.

What Conditions Do Custom Orthotics Treat?

Orthotics can be used for a wide range of indications where the feet require more support. Below are some of the conditions that orthotics are used for:
  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Flat feet and fallen arches
  • High arches
  • Achilles and posterior tibial tendon problems
  • Bunions and hammertoes
  • Knee, hip or back strain linked to foot mechanics
  • Diabetic foot pressure points

Custom vs Store-Bought Inserts

Over-the-counter inserts add cushioning and general arch support, and they're a fine first step for mild problems. Custom orthotics are shaped to your foot and prescribed to correct your specific mechanics. They're firmer, longer-lasting and targeted to your diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Orthotics

  • How much does custom orthotics cost?

Custom Orthotics at Denver Vein Center cost $400 a pair. This price includes personal evaluation and measurements by Dr. McNelly, fabrication, follow-up appointment, and any necessary adjustments.

  • Does insurance cover custom orthotics?

While individual insurance plans vary, custom orthotics are typically not covered by most major insurances. We will help checking your insurance benefits when you call to make an appointment with us.

  • How long does it take for the orthotics to be made?

The custom orthotics are fabricated by specialized company/lab and the usual turnaround time is 2 weeks.

  • How long do custom orthotics last?

With normal daily wear, our custom orthotics last about 2 years. This is about double the lifespan of a over-the-counter pair.

  • Will the orthotics fit into my shoes

Our custom orthotics are made to fit most athletic shoes, tennis shoes, walking shoes, dress shoes, work boots, and casual shoes. They obviously will not work with sandals or high heels.

  • Can orthotics hurt my feet?

Dr. McNelly will evaluate your fresh orthotics for fitment when you return to our clinic for follow-up. While there is a short break-in period for any new pair, your orthotics should not cause any severe symptoms. If you experience any discomfort, we recommend your return to clinic for additional adjustment.

  • I have old orthotics. When do I need new orthotics?

As noted above, a pair of orthotics typically last 1-2 years with daily wear and will lose their support over time. Other factors such as age, pregnancy, weight and hormone changes can also alter your foot anatomy and necessitate a new measurement. If you have foot pain with your existing orthotics, call us today for an evaluation.
