Cosmetic sclerotherapy is typically performed by sclerotherapy nurse, while ultrasound-guided medical sclerotherapy is performed by the vascular surgeon. Sclerotherapy is safe and highly-effective for qualified patients.

What is Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting a specialized solution—called a sclerosant—directly into abnormal veins. This solution irritates the inner lining of the vein, causing it to collapse and eventually be reabsorbed by the body.

Sclerotherapy is most effective when used for smaller veins, such as reticular veins, spider veins, and smaller varicose veins. It has both medical and cosmetic applications based on the patient's veins, symptoms, and medical history.

Sclerotherapy can be done by both Dr. Le and sclerotherapy nurse Jonna. Dr. Le typically performs sclerotherapy under ultrasound guidance for medical patients, while Jonna focuses on cosmetic sclerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy typically takes between 15-40 minutes, depending on the extent of veins treated. It is commonly to take 2-3 sessions of treatment to achieve desired outcome.

Does Health Insurance Covers Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy can be covered by your health insurance if meet certain medically-necessary criteria. This typically applies to patients who had undergone more advanced varicose vein treatments and sclerotherapy is used to treat varicose veins that are still causing significant symptoms such as pain or skin issues. At Denver Vein Center, we carefully evaluate every patient for medically-necessary treatments.

Cosmetic sclerotherapy is not covered by insurance. For patients who are not sure which category of treatment (medical vs cosmetic), we offer a thorough nurse consultation for $50.00. This balance will be applied to any subsequent sclerotherapy you receive.

For patients who are determined to be medical vein patients, the $50.00 is refunded or billed toward your copay as directed by your insurance.
