Vein Treatments for Hands: How Hands Can Age

Your hands are your introduction to the world. We use them to greet people, tell stories, give hugs, and so much more. The last thing you want is to look down and not recognize them as your own.

While protecting your hands from the sun and moisturizing them on a regular basis can offer some rejuvenation benefits, it cannot tackle all of the problems that aid in the aging process.

Several factors contribute to aging hands:

  • Age Spots
  • Rough and scaly patches
  • Loss of fullness
  • Visible veins
  • Wrinkly or crepe paper skin
  • Loose skin
  • Brittle nails

These cosmetic concerns may have you seeking out treatments to improve the overall look of your skin. Fortunate for you, these issues are treatable, and Denver Vein Center offers several treatment options to give your hands that youthful glow they once had.

One of our most popular treatment options is IPL Photorejuvenation:

Laser Genesis Skin Therapy is a technologically advanced way to gain vibrant, healthy-looking skin. It treats aging, sun damage such as redness, rosacea, dilated and broken blood vessels, improves large pores, skins texture, and treats fine lines and wrinkles.

Photorejuvenation consists of a series of 3 to 5 30-90 minute treatments that are done three to six weeks apart with little discomfort and minimal risk to the patient.

The IPL device emits a range of light waves that are tuned and targeted at the blemish. As the light beam passes through the skin, it damages the vessels and is absorbed by the body, rendering them less visible to the naked eye.

What Causes Broken Blood Vessels on the Face?

Spider veins on the face, also referred to as facial telangiectasia, is a common complaint among men and women today. Telangiectasia affects approximately one-third of female adults and 40% of men in the U.S.

These delicate vessels are often thought of as broken but instead, are enlarged blood vessels that aggregated to the surface of the skin. While usually harmless, and appear mostly on the chin, cheeks, and nose, are oftentimes signs of underlying medical conditions.

Common causes of spider veins

Alcohol Use: Chronic alcohol intake can raise blood pressure and enlarge the delicate blood vessels of the face.

Aging: Aging skin becomes thinner allowing blood vessels to become more visible. These vessels are also more fragile making them prone to break and appear spidery in appearance.

Pregnancy: Blood flow increases during pregnancy, so it intensifies the effects of telangiectasia on the face.

Sun Exposure: Skin damage caused by overexposure to the sun can result in broken blood vessels across the nose, chin, and cheeks.

Rosacea: A chronic inflammatory disorder of the skin resulting in redness of the face and increased visibility of broken blood vessels.

Telangiectasia is not just a cosmetic problem, however, and can come with symptoms such as pain, itching, aching, blood clots and even spontaneous bleeding. While some of the effects are treatable with skin care regimens, prescription medicines and the avoidance of triggers that can worsen the condition, seeking professional help can be beneficial.

Denver Vein Center offers some different treatment options to remove spider veins which may improve your overall appearance and health. For a pre-treatment assessment to determine the best plan of action for you, please get in touch with us today!

Microneedling at home? Here’s the health concerns to watch out for!

Chances are you have heard of microneedling. It’s a process that uses a specialized device, such as the SkinPen®, to create microscopic holes in the skin to improve its overall appearance. While wildly popular and successful at the dermatologist’s office, people are seeking ways to perform this treatment at home by use of a dermaroller. However, braving this procedure on your own is not without its risks and dermatologists don’t recommend it.

At-home devices are not as efficient nor do they offer the same results as having the procedure done by a professional. As such, tackling the treatment at home won’t significantly impact skin conditions such as acne scars and wrinkles and could, in fact, make them worse!

Safety is also an issue.

If you fail to execute the appropriate techniques or the needles are not sharp enough, you risk tearing your skin. In addition to tears, other risks to consider are:

  • Infection
  • Nerve and blood vessel damage
  • Disease transmission
  • Scar formation
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Skin inflammation
  • Allergic reactions and more!

In attempts to prevent these risks, the FDA released a “draft guidance,” which assists in determining if the at-home microneedling device you are using is considered a medical instrument that should only be used by trained professionals or safe to use at home.

If your device claims any of the following, it’s a medical tool and not recommended for home use:

  • Treats scars
  • Treats wrinkles and deep facial lines
  • Treats cellulite and stretch marks
  • Treats acne, dermatoses alopecia
  • Stimulates collagen production or angiogenesis
  • Promotes wound healing

Those safe to use at home claim to:

  • Facilitate exfoliation
  • Improve skin’s appearance
  • Give skin a smoother look/feel
  • Illuminates skin

While you may be tempted to give microneedling at home a try, you risk making the condition you are trying to correct worse. At Denver Vein Center our trained professionals can give you the results you’re after with little to no downtime. So don’t risk damaging that beautiful face of yours!
